Roman Holiday

Add classical style to holiday centerpieces by creating gilded urns that hold potted carnations in rich, seasonal colors. Finished with ornamental holiday trimmings, these arrangements are sure to make carnation history this year!

Use different types of metallic paint to make arrangements for many holiday occasions. For Christmas, add deep red Dart carnation to a gold urn (see how-to steps) and trim with faux pine branches, cones and red berries.

Create beautiful fall holiday urns using copper gilding (see how-to steps) and orange Mel carnations. To trim, glue separated salal leaves around top edge of urn. Insert black beard wheat, making sure stalks don’t obstruct view of carnations.

1.
Create a gilded urn: fill a large, disposable container with water (see note). Holding metallic spray paint can 6” from the water surface, spray unevenly for 7 to 10 seconds.

2.
Wearing latex gloves, dip and turn urn in paint-covered water, using a smooth, continuous motion. Be sure to completely submerge the object. Repeat as necessary. Let dry thoroughly before creating arrangements.
NOTE: For heavy, sharp gilding, use cold water. Warm or hot water lends a softer look. Take precautions with hot water.
